Portsea Residence | Portsea VIC
status: on hold
This design for a new beach house on the Mornington
Peninsula, close to Melbourne was situated on a contoured
site, in an area of old sand dunes and a small number of tea
trees.
The approach to the massing of the house was for it to be
nested into these contours with inhabitants experiencing this
unique landscape from inside and out.
The clients, living most of the year overseas, needed the
house to be low maintenance and to be zoned and highly
functional. Therefore, there is the option of opening the entire
house up for a large gathering, or just making use of a
small wing, containing a bedroom and bathroom, with access
to kitchen.
The form of the house plays on ideas of the Australian
Farm house and makes use of Australian timbers and
other materials.
