Marysville Temporary Village | Marysville
Status: Complete and further ongoing

Following the 'Black Saturday' Bushfires in Victoria, Splinter
Society was asked to be involved on a pro-bono basis to help
with the Masterplanning for the Marysville Temporary Village,
which was intended to house a number of displaced
individuals and families from the area.
The site Masterplan was created around a sense of community
and alpine village, rather than a suburban subdivision.
A large amount of the focus was to create new social networks
and maintain existing social networks for the inhabitants.
The design for the site incorporated numerous donated kit
homes, miners units, sheds and other items and was
completed in a turnaround of 3 weeks.
Key ideas included the grouping together of communal
programs and activities, limiting car access on site where
possible and scattering of the houses on the small lot to
maximise privacy, without the use of fences, and increase
solar gain to each unit.
